These are the personal essays. Being trans, being a parent, being an ocean away from where I started, and the general messy beautiful business of being alive. Transness runs through most of them, but they aren’t lessons about being trans. They’re just me, thinking out loud, in my inside voice. Start anywhere. If you’d rather have a path, here’s one.
On Being a Hoosier. If you only read one, read this. Vonnegut, farting around, and the clearest picture of the voice and where I’m from.
Here are some other pieces that provide a lens into my inner life that I’d like you to read:
- On Being a Hoosier (so nice I listed it twice)
- Not a Boy in Love – love and getting the wrong manual
- Exit Through the Gift Shop – moving a family across an ocean at Christmas
- Ravel: What Can Change the Nature of a Man? on “when did you know?”, “how do you know?”, and why both questions are built on a bad assumption.
- International Women’s Day 2024 – ambivalence about womanhood by appointment
- Trans in Tech – the invisible tax of being trans at work
- Thoughts on Pride 2026 – choosing to be the out person you needed to see and never had
Where this is going: these are becoming a collection, A Sincere Plea for Your Attention. If you want to know when it’s out, follow me on Ko-fi, or watch the itch page. What I publish from the collection will always be here as well.
If you’re still thirsty for more, here is Everything, newest first.
